The Detroit School of Burlesque empowers everyone to give themselves permission to be sexy! If you’re looking to launch into your burlesque career, the Detroit School of Burlesque has created a comprehensive course that fits your desire! 

BURLESQUE CLASSES FOCUS ON BODY-POSITIVE WORKSHOPS.
ALL WOMEN ARE ENCOURAGED TO JOIN CLASSES REGARDLESS OF AGE, BODY TYPE, ETHNICITY, OR OCCUPATION.
Award-winning performers Miss Holly Hock & Leena Allure will guide you through an 8-week course of burlesque instruction covering everything from how to create choreography & costuming for your first routine to how to market yourself as a performer. Then you will have the opportunity to show what you’ve learned in the next quarterly student showcase! Students will also receive a certificate of completion at the showcase. Class sizes are limited and spaces fill up fast, must be 21+. No prior dance or burlesque experience is necessary. $225 for the entire course including photoshoot, additional discounted packages also available! 

This is a comprehensive class covering all aspects of burlesque, not simply basic dance class. While we absolutely show you some fun dance moves, chair moves, glove and stocking peels, we also cover things like hair and makeup, burlesque etiquette and the business aspects of burlesque. This class is great for any aspiring performer to build a foundation of knowledge that will help them get started.

7/10 7pm-8pm – Class 1 – Intro to Burlesque 
In this class, we will cover some basics, including important tips and tricks every showgirl should know, how to choose your burlesque name & how to get involved with the burlesque community. Then we will help you learn the basics of the Bump & Grind! 

7/17 7pm-8pm Class 2 – Poise & Fluid motion in Burlesque 
In this class we will help you perfect your poise and pose which is useful both on stage and in front of the camera. We will also be learning some fun fluid motion and isolation moves that you can incorporate into your burlesque routines! 


7/24 7pm-8pm Class 3 – Costuming 
In this class we will cover costuming tips and tricks, different clothing removal methods, construction and embellishment methods, how to choose your costume pieces to best tell your story and more. (plus how to adhere pasties which you will need in the next class)

7/31 7pm-8pm Class 4 – Choreography, Facial Expressions & Stage Presence 
In this class we will cover creating a routine, how to plan your choreography and some sultry crowd-pleasing moves you can incorporate all while learning to have a strong, confident stage presence and fun facial expressions.

8/7 7pm-8pm Class 5 – Stage Hair & Makeup 
In this class we will teach you some hair styling and makeup tips to help you create that perfect showgirl stage ready look! We will even show you how to apply those pesky false eyelashes! 

8/14 7pm-8pm Class 6 – Stockings, Tassels and Chairs…Oh My! 
In this class we will teach you the how to’s of glove & stocking peels and even some sassy chair moves! And get out those pasties because we will be teaching you how to twirl your tassels!

8/21 7pm-8pm Class 7 – The Business of Burlesque 
In this class we will cover how to market yourself as a burlesque performer, how to get booked for shows, burlesque etiquette, how to write a bio and an act intro. We will also have a 
Q & A session to answer any questions or review anything covered in the course.

8/29 6:30pm-8pm Class 8 – Photo Shoot 
This week put those hair, makeup & pose tricks you learned to work! We will be doing performer headshots for each student. Please come dressed and hair & makeup ready.

Fall Student Showcase at Ant Hall 


Time to show off what you’ve learned in our quarterly student showcase. In this student showcase, you can invite family and friends to watch you make your debut! Tickets will be available for attendees a few weeks before the actual event. 21+ only
