Build on your knowledge of basic belly dance technique, posture, movement, and combinations created in the belly dance basics course. Belly dance is a dance of intention. This course will continue to focus on basic body mechanics, timing, and flow of movement for the beginning belly dancer. By focusing on combining movements into short combinations while travelling along with further developing them while standing still, we will further explore how we can create slinky, snake-like movements and strong, powerful statements with any type of music. Each week will be different, however content in later classes will build on previous coursework. Full session is recommended, however drop-ins should be able to catch up quickly.

Recommended for students who have completed at least 3 classes of the belly dance basics course. Variations can be made for more experienced dancers and those with health considerations. Wear comfortable clothing that will not restrict your movement. A scarf, shawl, or belt can be helpful in emphasizing hip movements. Belly dance is generally practiced and performed barefoot, however soft-soled dance shoes are acceptable. Bring a water bottle, notebook, and a positive attitude.
